Early Life and Career
Rodrigo Pessoa, a renowned Brazilian equestrian and showjumping champion, was born on November 29, 1972, in Paris, France. He is the son of Olympic equestrian champion Nelson Pessoa. Rodrigo began his competitive career in 1981 at Hickstead and made a significant mark in 1984 by winning his first title as Pony Champion, a feat he repeated in 1985. His first Grand Prix victory came in 1988.
Olympic Success
In 1992, Pessoa became Brazil's youngest Olympic equestrian representative at the Barcelona Games at age 19. He returned to the Olympics in 1996 in Atlanta, where he helped Brazil win a bronze medal with his horse Loro Piana TomBoy VI. In 2000 in Sydney, he earned his second Olympic bronze medal as part of the Brazilian team. His greatest Olympic triumph came in 2004 in Athens, where he initially won a silver medal in the individual competition, but was later awarded the gold after the disqualification of Cian O'Connor and Waterford Crystal for doping.
World Championship Triumphs
Pessoa achieved remarkable success in the World Equestrian Games. In 1998, he and his horse Gandini Lianos became the youngest World Champions at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Rome. He went on to win the World Cup Finals three consecutive times with his horse Baloubet du Rouet, and became the first rider to win four Cup Finals in the event's history.

Pessoa's equestrian prowess was recognized with numerous accolades. He was named 'World's Best Rider' and 'Show Jumping Horseman of the Year.' In 2007, he won gold in the team event and silver in the individual competition at the Pan American Games held in his hometown.
