Rolf Kasparek: Early Life and Musical Influences

Rolf Kasparek, born on July 1, 1961, in Hamburg, Germany, developed a passion for rock music at a young age. Inspired by bands like Slade, Kiss, and Judas Priest, he received his first electric guitar at age 11. At 15, he formed the school band Granite Heart, later renamed Running Wild, and designed the band's iconic logo.

Founding Running Wild and Establishing a Unique Sound

In 1984, Running Wild released their debut album, "Gates to Purgatory," marking Kasparek's transformation into a professional musician. As the band's guitarist, vocalist, primary songwriter, and producer, he played a pivotal role in shaping their distinctive sound. His skilled rhythm guitar playing and characteristically harsh vocals contributed to the band's identity. In 1987, Kasparek introduced the pirate image to Running Wild, which became an integral part of their branding.

Uncompromising Leadership and Solo Endeavors

Kasparek's uncompromising nature and insistence on controlling every aspect of Running Wild led to frequent lineup changes. By the mid-1990s, the band had become virtually a solo project, with other musicians primarily acting as guest session players. This culminated in the 2005 album "Rogues en Vogue," where Kasparek handled all guitars, vocals, and most of the bass parts.

Collaborations and Toxic Taste

In addition to his work with Running Wild, Kasparek has collaborated with other bands. He co-produced Kreyson's 1990 album "Angel on the Run" and provided backing vocals. In 1992, he produced Kelley Wild's "Looks Like Dynamite," contributing a solo guitar part. From 2007, Kasparek focused on the glam rock side project Toxic Taste under the pseudonym T. T. Poison. He wrote and performed all songs, providing guitars and backing vocals.

Closing the Running Wild Chapter

In 2009, Kasparek announced the end of Running Wild, citing the band's decline and his desire to explore new paths. Their farewell concert took place at the Wacken Open Air festival on July 30, 2009. Since then, he has resided in Hanover, Germany.
