Early Life and Education
Ivan Drach was born on May 27, 1929, in the village of Trach, Ukraine. He attended the Kolomyia Gymnasium and Kolomyia Secondary School No. 1 from 1942 to 1947. Subsequently, he pursued his education at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, graduating from its philological faculty in 1957.
Literary Career
Drach began his writing career in 1968 with the publication of his historical novel "Mallow." He was a prolific author, producing numerous novels, poems, and plays throughout his life. Drach's works often explored themes of Ukrainian history, culture, and the human condition.
Political Involvement
In addition to his literary pursuits, Drach was actively involved in politics. He served as a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and was a delegate to the 27th Congress of the CPSU. He also represented the Ukrainian SSR at a session of the UN General Assembly in 1980.
Nationalist Activities
Drach became a prominent figure in the Ukrainian nationalist movement. He co-founded the Taras Shevchenko Society of the Ukrainian Language and the People's Movement of Ukraine. He was a member of the Union of Writers of Ukraine from 1960.
