Early Life and Career
Martin Kinast, an Austrian striker, was born into a family with a strong footballing background. His father, Martin Sr., was a former professional player, and Kinast himself began his footballing journey at the tender age of six. He progressed through the youth ranks at Fösendorf and later joined the prestigious Rapid Vienna academy.
Professional Debut at Rapid Vienna
In 2002, Kinast made his professional debut for Rapid Vienna. Over the next four years, he became an integral part of the team, winning the Austrian Bundesliga championship in the 2004/05 season and participating in the UEFA Champions League group stage the same year. During his time at Rapid, Kinast made 55 appearances, scoring 3 goals.
Loan Spells and International Debut
To gain more playing time, Kinast was sent on loan to lower-division club Rainersdorf in 2004, where he scored 4 goals in 6 matches. In 2006, he joined Norwegian side HamKam on a loan deal that was eventually made permanent. While representing HamKam, Kinast briefly played in the Tippeliga, the Norwegian top flight. In 2007, he made his debut for the Austrian national team and went on to represent his country at the 2008 European Championship.
Move to Helsingborg and Return to Austria
In 2008, Kinast was loaned to Swedish club Helsingborg, but he failed to meet expectations. He returned to HamKam, which was relegated to the second division in 2009. Following the relegation, Kinast moved on a free transfer to Sturm Graz in Austria. At Sturm, he found success, scoring a goal on his debut and helping the team win the Austrian Bundesliga title in the 2012/13 season.
Later Career and Retirement
After leaving Sturm Graz in 2014, Kinast spent the next few years playing for various clubs in Austria and Germany. He finally retired from professional football in 2018 at the age of 34.
