After completing his education, Ancāns became an actor at the J. Rainis Theater. In 1982, he played the lead role in the epic drama "Introduction to the Battle" alongside Alexander Zbruev. The film is set in July 1941 during the Great Patriotic War and portrays the efforts of those who worked in evacuated factories in Siberia and the Urals to contribute to the production of military equipment and help bring Victory Day closer.
In 1989, Ancāns had one of the main roles in the war drama film "Cargo 300" about the military actions in Afghanistan. He showcased his acting skills in portraying the experiences and challenges faced by soldiers during the conflict.
