Early Life and Career

Ron Ely, an American actor and writer, was born in Hereford, Texas, and raised in Amarillo. The 81-year-old is best known for his portrayal of the titular character in the 1960s television series "Tarzan." He also appeared in films such as "Fantasy Island," "Wonder Woman," and "Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze." In the 1980s, he served as the host of the Miss America pageant.

Personal Life and Tragedy

In recent years, Ely has faced significant health issues. He was married to Valerie Lundeen Ely, who was tragically murdered by their 30-year-old son, Cameron Ely, on Tuesday evening, October 15, 2019. Valerie Lundeen Ely, a former Miss Florida 1981 and Miss USA contestant, was 62 years old. Ron and Valerie married in 1984 and had two daughters, Kirsten and Kaitland, in addition to their son. Ely was present at the time of his wife's murder but was unharmed.

Investigation and Aftermath

Due to a speech impediment, Ely was unable to communicate effectively with police but indicated that a family member had killed his wife. According to Daily Mail, Cameron initially attempted to shift the blame for Valerie's murder to his father. The young man called police himself and tearfully stated that his father had attacked his mother. Police subsequently apprehended Cameron and, according to a statement from the sheriff's department, the young man "posed a threat," which resulted in him being fatally shot by deputy sheriffs.
