Early Life and Business Career

Ron Johnson was born in Mankato, Minnesota, to Janet and Dale Johnson. With Norwegian and German ancestry, Johnson spent his early years working odd jobs, such as delivering newspapers and caddying at a golf course. He earned a degree in business and accounting from the University of Minnesota while working full-time.

In 1979, Johnson moved to Wisconsin and joined PACUR, LLC, a sheet extruder manufacturer co-founded by his brother-in-law. He worked as an accountant and machinist before becoming CEO in the mid-1980s. In 1987, PACUR was sold to Bowater Industries, but Johnson retained his position as CEO. He eventually purchased the company back in 1997.

Political Entry: 2010 Senate Campaign

In 2010, Johnson entered the political realm. Notably involved in the Tea Party movement, he received significant attention at Tea Party rallies. Despite being a political newcomer, he won the Republican primary with 85% of the vote.

As a candidate, Johnson opposed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. He self-funded much of his campaign, which raised over $15 million.

Tenure in the U.S. Senate

In the 2010 general election, Johnson defeated incumbent Democrat Russ Feingold with 52% of the vote. He subsequently sold all liquid assets to avoid conflicts of interest.

Johnson was considered a vulnerable incumbent in the 2016 election cycle. However, he defeated Feingold again, winning 50.2% of the vote.

Recent Political Career

Since his election, Johnson has maintained a highly controversial record. He has been a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump and has actively promoted Trump's policies, including tax cuts and deregulation. Johnson has also been a vocal opponent of the Affordable Care Act.

In 2022, Johnson was re-elected to the Senate after a close race against Democratic challenger Mandela Barnes. Despite concerns about his ties to the January 6th Capitol attack, he garnered 50.5% of the vote.

Johnson is married to Jane Beres. They have two children and reside in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Johnson is known for his conservative views and his strong commitment to the principles of limited government.
