Early Life and Education
Ronald Levy, a Jamaican hurdler, was born on October 30, 1992, in Westmoreland, Jamaica. He attended the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).
Athletic Development
Levy initially competed in various sprint and hurdle events before establishing himself as an elite hurdler. In the 2014 season, he clocked a personal best of 20.81 seconds in the 200 meters. He gradually improved his 110-meter hurdle time, clocking 13.63 seconds in 2015 and 13.50 in 2016.
Under the Guidance of Renowned Coaches
In 2017, Levy made significant progress under the guidance of coaches Stephen Francis and Bridgette Foster-Hylton. He defeated Olympic medalist Hansle Parchment at the UTech Classic and set a meet record of 13.33 seconds in the Penn Relays. In his IAAF Diamond League debut, he placed second to Olympic champion Omar McLeod at the Prefontaine Classic with a time of 13.10 seconds.
National and International Success
After finishing second to McLeod at the Jamaican Athletics Championships in June, Levy went on to defeat his rival at the National Championships. At the 2017 World Athletics Championships, he hit the first hurdle in his heat and was forced to withdraw from the competition.
Levy ventured into indoor hurdles for the first time in 2018 and qualified for the semi-finals of the 60-meter hurdles at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships. At the age of 25, he secured his first major international medal by claiming gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Tokyo Olympics 2020
In the 110-meter hurdles final at the Tokyo Olympics, Levy won a bronze medal in a time of 13.10 seconds, finishing behind Hansle Parchment and Grant Holloway.
