Rosana Bertone, a prominent Argentine politician, has left an indelible mark on the nation's political landscape. Since 2015, she has held the esteemed position of Governor of Tierra del Fuego Province.
Early Life and Education
Rosana Bertone was born on May 9, 1972, in San Salvador, Entre Ríos. Her academic pursuits led her to the National University of Littoral, where she completed her law degree in 1995.
Entry into Politics
Bertone's political career took off in 2001 when she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies as a representative from Tierra del Fuego. She successfully secured re-election in 2005 and 2009.
Opposition to Same-Sex Marriage
In 2010, Bertone garnered attention by opposing her party's proposed legislation to legalize same-sex marriage in Argentina.
Gubernatorial Campaigns
Bertone first ran for Governor of Tierra del Fuego in 2011, narrowly losing in the second round to Fabiana Ríos. In 2013, she was elected to the Argentine Senate representing Tierra del Fuego.
Two years later, Bertone made another bid for the governorship. She secured 42.26% of the vote in the first round and ultimately triumphed over Federico Sciurano in a runoff election on June 28, 2015, becoming the first female Governor of Tierra del Fuego.
