Early Life and Education
Roy Bostock was born in 1940 in Montclair, New Jersey. After his father tragically died in a car accident when Roy was a senior in high school, he relied on football scholarships to attend college. He received offers from Harvard and Duke University but ultimately chose Duke, where he played on the Blue Devils football and baseball teams. Upon graduating from Duke in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Bostock was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He then pursued an MBA from Harvard Business School, graduating in 1964.
Business Career
Benton & Bowles (1964-1988)Bostock's career began as an assistant brand manager at Benton & Bowles, an advertising agency closely tied to Procter & Gamble. He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming Senior Vice President and Managing Director by the late 1960s. In 1973, he was elected to Benton & Bowles' board of directors.
D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles (1984-1990)
After Benton & Bowles merged with D'Arcy-MacManus Masius, Bostock became President of the merged company's U.S. operations. In 1988, he was elected President and COO of the combined entity.
MacManus Group (1990-2000)
When MacManus Group was formed to include D.M.B.&B., Bostock became Chairman of the enlarged company. Among MacManus' clients were Coca-Cola, Fiat, Procter & Gamble, Mars, and General Motors.
BCom3 Group (2000-2002)
Following the merger of MacManus and The Leo Group, Bostock chaired the newly formed BCom3 Group until 2002, when he announced his departure following the company's sale to Publicis Groupe.
Northwest Airlines
Board of Directors (2005-2007)In 2005, Bostock joined the board of directors of Northwest Airlines, which was recovering from bankruptcy. He played a key role in negotiating salary increases with unions, helping to stabilize the company.
Chairman of the Board (2007-2008)
In April 2007, Bostock became Chairman of Northwest Airlines. During his tenure, Northwest merged with Delta Air Lines, which was announced in April 2008.
Yahoo! Inc.
Board of Directors (2003-2008)Bostock joined Yahoo!'s board of directors in 2003.
Chairman of the Board (2008)
On February 1, 2008, Bostock was appointed Chairman of Yahoo! Inc. Shortly thereafter, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer approached Yahoo! CEO Jerry Yang with an offer to acquire the company for $44.6 billion. Negotiations ensued for three months, but the parties failed to reach a deal.

Personal Life
Bostock is married to Merilee Bostock, an interior designer. They met in high school in Edina, Minnesota, and both graduated from Duke University. They have three children: Matthew, Victoria, and Kate. All three children attended Duke University, and Kate holds an MBA from the school.
