Bretman Rock Sacayanan Laforga was born on July 31, 1998, in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan, Philippines, to Ilocano parents. His father, Edmund Laforga, named him after professional wrestlers Bret Hart and The Rock due to his love for wrestling. Bretman moved to Hawaii at the age of seven and participated in various sports during his childhood, including baseball, football, cross country, and volleyball. He was on the track team during his time at Campbell High School.

Bretman Rock began his career as a comedian and meme creator on YouTube and Vine. He later transitioned into vlogging and creating beauty tutorials. He is known for his humorous outlook on life. In 2016, one of Bretman's contouring videos went viral. He was inspired by vlogger Talia Joy and makeup artist Patrick Starr. Also in 2016, he signed a management deal with Adober Studios, owned by ABS-CBN, a social media creator network owned by the largest Filipino media conglomerate, ABS-CBN Corporation.
