Ruben Ghevondovich Hovsepyan: Armenian Writer and Former Parliament Deputy
Early Life and Education
Ruben Ghevondovich Hovsepyan was born on May 5, 1939, in Yerevan, Armenia. He graduated from Yerevan State University in 1962 with a degree in engineering geology. In 1972-1974, Hovsepyan completed the Higher Courses for Film Screenwriters and Directors in Moscow, earning a degree in filmmaking.
Career in Journalism and Literature
Hovsepyan began his career as a geologist in Turkmenistan and Armenia in 1962-1964. From 1965-1966, he worked as the head of a department at the newspaper "Avangard." He then became a correspondent for the newspaper "Grakan Tert" from 1966-1969. In 1970-1974, Hovsepyan served as the head of a department at the journal "Soветакан Граканутюн."
From 1975-1976, he held the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Armenian State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting. Following this, he worked at the editorial office of the "V Efire Yerevan" newspaper from 1976-1979.
Literary Achievements
Hovsepyan resumed his work at "Soветакан Граканутюн" from 1980-1982, once again heading one of its departments. He then became the head of a department at the "Soветакан Grokh" publishing house, eventually rising to the position of Editor-in-Chief from 1982-1987.
In 1987-1988, Hovsepyan held the post of Secretary of the Armenian Writers' Union. From 1989 onwards, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Nork."
Political Career
In 2000, Hovsepyan entered the political arena and was elected as a deputy to the Armenian Parliament. He served as a member of the Standing Commission on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Issues. Hovsepyan was affiliated with the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).
He was re-elected to Parliament in 2003, where he became the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Science, Education, Culture, and Youth Issues. He continued to serve as a member of the ARF.
