Biography of Rubens Barrichello

Rubens Barrichello is a former Formula 1 driver who had a successful career in the sport. Born in Brazil, Barrichello showed his talent at a young age, winning five Brazilian karting championships by the age of seventeen.

Early Career

In 1989, Barrichello finished fourth in the Brazilian Formula Ford 1600 series. The following year, he moved to Europe and immediately became the winner of the European Formula Opel series. His next career step was the British Formula 3, which he won impressively, surpassing the local rising star and future Formula 1 competitor, David Coulthard. In the next season, Barrichello participated in the Formula 3000 championship and finished in third place.

Formula 1 Career

In 1993, Eddie Jordan, the head of the eponymous racing team, believed that Barrichello was ready for Formula 1 and signed an agreement with the Brazilian shortly before his twenty-first birthday. In 1994, Barrichello thanked Jordan for his trust by securing his first pole position on the wet track of Spa-Francorchamps. Unfortunately, his race ended on the 19th lap due to a spin, but he finished third in the Pacific Grand Prix and scored five fourth-place finishes.

Barrichello remained with Jordan until the end of 1996, achieving his best result of second place at the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix. In 1997, he joined the newly formed Stewart team. Due to reliability issues, his second-place finish in Monaco remained the best result during their three seasons of collaboration. In 2000, Barrichello moved to Ferrari.

Success with Ferrari

In his debut season with the Italian team, Barrichello secured his first Formula 1 victory in the chaotic German Grand Prix, making an impressive comeback from the back of the grid. Although he couldn't repeat his win in 2001, Barrichello achieved four victories in 2002. He added two more wins to his record in 2003. In the 2004 season, he finished in second place, winning in Italy and becoming the first-ever winner of the Chinese Grand Prix.
