Early Life and Career

Born in Baku, Azerbaijan SSR, to Armenian parents, Rudolf Atamalyan began his football career with local club "Trudovye Rezervy". In 1965, he joined "Khazar" (Sumgait) before returning to Baku the following year to play for the reserve team of "Neftchi".

Breakthrough with "Ararat" and "Lokomotiv"

In 1966, Atamalyan transferred to "Ararat". While primarily playing for the reserve team in Yerevan, he independently approached "Lokomotiv" Moscow's manager in 1968 and requested a tryout.

Atamalyan spent the next five years with "Lokomotiv", becoming the team's main striker. He was appointed captain in 1971 but sustained a serious injury early in the season, sidelining him for almost a year.

Later Career and Transition to Coaching

After leaving "Lokomotiv", Atamalyan played for "Uralmash" and "Nistru". In his first year with "Nistru", he helped the club achieve promotion to the top flight of the Soviet Championship.

Following his retirement as a player, Atamalyan worked as a youth coach in Tyumen. He later became an assistant coach for "Fakel" in 1981, before returning to Tyumen as head coach of "Geolog" in 1988. He subsequently coached "Irtysh" (Tobolsk) and "Tyumen" again.

Personal Life and Current Activities

Atamalyan currently resides in Moscow, where his daughter Marianna lives in an apartment he received from "Lokomotiv". He continues to work in football, coaching youth players aged 12-13 at a sports school in Sochi.
