Ruslan Ponomariov, a Ukrainian chess grandmaster, was born on November 11, 1983, in Gorlovka, Donetsk Oblast. He started playing chess at the age of 7 under the guidance of coach Dmitry Komarov.

At the young age of 16, Ponomariov achieved a remarkable feat by winning the World Youth Chess Olympiad in 1999, which earned him the title of grandmaster. In the year 2000, he represented the Ukrainian national team at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul and achieved the best result on the second board.

Ponomariov believes that the disputes and disagreements among chess players arise due to the existence of multiple systems for determining the strongest player. He proposed organizing a match for the title of "Absolute World Chess Champion" involving 6-8 leading chess players at the end of the current or beginning of the upcoming year.
