Biography of Ruslan Ponomariov - Chess Grandmaster and World Champion

Ruslan Ponomariov, a Ukrainian chess grandmaster, was born on November 11, 1983, in Gorlovka, Donetsk Oblast. He started playing chess at the age of 7 under the guidance of coach Dmitry Komarov.

At the young age of 16, Ponomariov achieved a remarkable feat by winning the World Youth Chess Olympiad in 1999, which earned him the title of grandmaster. In the year 2000, he represented the Ukrainian national team at the Chess Olympiad in Istanbul and achieved the best result on the second board.

Ponomariov believes that the disputes and disagreements among chess players arise due to the existence of multiple systems for determining the strongest player. He proposed organizing a match for the title of "Absolute World Chess Champion" involving 6-8 leading chess players at the end of the current or beginning of the upcoming year. He suggests that such a tournament would help overcome the crisis in the chess world, which, according to him, has been exacerbated with the involvement of the International Chess Federation.

Apart from his passion for chess, Ponomariov also enjoys playing tennis, billiards, and football. His favorite football team is Shakhtar Donetsk, while in basketball, he supports the American club Chicago Bulls. He has a fondness for ice cream with fruits and cakes, and his preferred beverage is tomato juice.

Despite his achievements, Ponomariov believes that he has yet to play his best game. His early years in chess were influenced by his time in Kramatorsk, where he took his initial steps in the game while studying at a law institute.

Overall, Ruslan Ponomariov's dedication to chess, his success as a grandmaster, and his desire to improve the chess world make him a prominent figure in the realm of chess.
