Early Career and Club Success

Ruy Campos, a renowned Brazilian defender, began his professional career with Bonsucesso in 1943. After a brief stint with Fluminense, he joined São Paulo in 1944, where he experienced the pinnacle of his club career.

As part of São Paulo's "Golden Trio" alongside Bauer and Noronha, Ruy played 272 matches over nine seasons, winning four São Paulo State Championships. Following his departure from São Paulo, he had short spells with Bangu and Palmeiras before retiring from club football.

International Success with Brazil

Ruy Campos was an integral part of the Brazilian national team from 1945 to 1950. During his time with the Seleção, he lifted the Roca Cup in 1945, two Rio-Branco Cups, and the South American Championship in 1949.

The Maracanazo and Retirement

Ruy Campos was a member of the Brazilian squad that reached the final of the 1950 FIFA World Cup. However, the Brazilians suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Uruguay in the infamous "Maracanazo." Distraught by the loss, Ruy, like many of his teammates, never represented Brazil again.
