Ryan Babel - Professional Dutch Footballer
Ryan Guno Babel, born on December 19, 1986, in Amsterdam, is a professional Dutch footballer who currently plays as a forward (or left attacking midfielder) for Liverpool and the Netherlands national team.
Early Career
Babel made his debut for Ajax on February 1, 2004, in a match against Den Haag, which his team won with a score of 4-0. He made his debut for the national team on March 26, 2005, in a match against Romania, replacing Arjen Robben and scoring one of the goals. Ryan is considered one of the most promising players from the Netherlands. He participated in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany as a member of the national team.
Career at Liverpool
Babel's debut for Liverpool took place on August 11, 2007, when he came on as a substitute for Jermaine Pennant in the 73rd minute of the first Premier League match against Aston Villa. In his very first season with the team, Babel became a solid first-team player and scored 10 goals in all competitions. Among them was a goal against Petr Cech in the semi-final match of the Champions League against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Unfortunately for Liverpool, this goal was not enough to reach the final of the competition.
International Career
Ryan was invited by Marco van Basten to participate in the 2008 UEFA European Championship as a member of the Dutch national team. However, in a friendly match before the start of the tournament, Babel suffered an injury that sidelined him for at least the beginning of the next season. Nevertheless, the coaching staff expressed hope that Ryan would recover quickly enough to play for the national team at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
