Childhood and Early Life
Ryan Corr was born on January 15, 1989, in Melbourne, Australia. His parents, a physical therapist and a coach for the Paralympic women's soccer team, supported his passion for acting from a young age. At 18, he left home to pursue his dreams in Sydney.
Education and Breakthrough
In 2009, Corr graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). Two years later, he received the prestigious Heath Ledger Scholarship, which included a $20,000 stipend and an internship in Los Angeles. However, unlike many actors who flocked to Hollywood, Corr chose to remain in Australia.
After losing two major roles in the US due to visa issues, Corr spent six months in Los Angeles. He called it a "fascinating but delusional" experience.
Film and Theatre Career
Corr's film debut was in 2003. In 2004, he landed his first starring role in the teen soap opera "Silver Sun." He has since gained considerable recognition for his performances in films such as "Where the Wild Things Are" (2009), "Wolf Creek 2" (2013), and "The Water Diviner" (2014).
On stage, Corr has starred in plays including "Sex with Strangers" (2009) and "Arcadia" (2015). His breakout role came in the 2015 film "Holding the Man," a gay love story based on the true story of Timothy Conigrave. Corr's portrayal earned critical acclaim.
Professional Philosophy
Corr emphasizes his selectivity in choosing projects. He is not driven by monetary gain or fame but by the opportunity to work with renowned directors and writers. He aims to challenge himself and immerse himself in diverse characters.
Personal Life
Corr has had high-profile relationships with actress Dena Kaplan and model Imogen Bailey. In 2015, he began dating dancer Kayla Bartholomew. They broke up in 2016.
Current Projects
In 2022, Corr appeared in the debut season of the HBO series "House of the Dragon," based on George R.R. Martin's novel "Fire & Blood." He played Harwin Strong, a knight suspected of fathering the children of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.
