Biography of Ryan Hayashi
Ryan Hayashi, a Canadian-Japanese actor and performer, is best known for his shows featuring a samurai sword. Throughout his career, Ryan has visited 18 countries and performed on some of the world's most famous TV shows, including 'Britain's Got Talent', 'Taking On The World', and 'Das Supertalent'. His performances have been watched by nearly 60 million viewers worldwide, receiving high praise not only from Western experts but also from Eastern martial arts masters, who are usually skeptical of showcasing an art that has been around for thousands of years.
Early Life and Education
Ryan Hayashi was born in 1973 in Canada. His parents immigrated to Canada from Japan but raised their son in the traditions of Japanese culture, teaching him the language and rich cultural heritage of his second homeland. At the age of 9, Ryan developed an interest in martial arts, which became his primary hobby and later a source of income.
Under his father's guidance, Ryan initially studied karate and later trained with other students in gymnasiums during his high school years. In 1992, he enrolled at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, where he deviated from his martial arts passion and began studying foreign languages. Little did he know that these language skills would prove extremely useful when his samurai sword shows gained popularity in North America and started captivating Europe.
Career
In 1998, Ryan Hayashi moved to Tokyo, Japan, where he spent two years working as an English teacher while continuing his karate training at the Japan Karate Association. After his time in Japan, Hayashi relocated to Germany, where he became a lecturer at the University of Mannheim while continuing his training.
Since 1999, Ryan has been performing with a samurai sword, combining spectacle with the traditions of Japanese masters. His first performance took place on the television show 'Dash Dash' in Japan, and soon he began appearing in other countries such as the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Brazil, Italy, Spain, France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, and many others.
In the United Kingdom, his performances were dubbed 'the most dangerous show ever to appear on screens,' while in Germany, judges who participated in his performances admitted they were ready to die at any moment. Ryan, however, assures that the likelihood of mistakes is minimal, as no novice fighter is allowed to perform with a real sword on live television. Years of training in sports halls worldwide guarantee the safety of all participants.
Ryan Hayashi is also proud to be the first to showcase this ancient martial art on screen, as many believed it could damage the reputation of great teachers who only share their knowledge with a select few.
Achievements
In 2011, as part of the Canadian team, Ryan Hayashi took first place in a championship organized by the World Association of Kickboxing and Karate. In the individual weapon category, Hayashi achieved first place, receiving a unique score of 9.99 out of 10 possible points.
Current Endeavors
As of today, Ryan continues his training and performances. His latest appearance on television screens was in 2013, as part of the British show 'Guinness World Records – On The Road'.
