Early Career
Ryoyu Kobayashi is a Japanese ski jumper who made his debut in the 2015/16 World Cup season on January 23rd in Zakopane, Poland. He competed in the team event, where Japan finished 8th. Kobayashi earned his first World Cup points on January 24th of the same year, placing 7th.
Breakthrough and Historic Accomplishments
Kobayashi's first World Cup podium finish came on November 18th, 2018, in Wisla, Poland. He then achieved his first victory at the following stage in Ruka, Finland, where he won twice.
In the 2018/19 season, Kobayashi became the third ski jumper in history to win all four stages of the Four Hills Tournament, following Sven Hannawald and Kamil Stoch. He also became the first non-European athlete to win the World Cup overall title.
Olympic Glory
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Kobayashi finished 7th in the individual normal hill event, 10th in the individual large hill event, and 6th in the team event.
On February 6th, 2022, at the XXIV Winter Olympics in Beijing, Kobayashi won the gold medal in the individual normal hill event. He became Japan's first-ever Olympic champion in ski jumping.
