Early Life and Career Beginnings

Piotr Żyła was born in Cieszyn, Poland, and developed a passion for ski jumping at a young age. He graduated from the sports school in Zakopane, where he honed his skills and prepared for a successful career.

World Cup Debut and Early Success

In January 2006, Żyła made his World Cup debut in Sapporo, Japan, finishing 19th and earning his first World Cup points. In 2013, he achieved his first major international medal, winning a bronze medal in the team event on the large hill at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme.

First World Cup Victory and Olympic Debut

On March 17, 2013, Żyła claimed his maiden World Cup victory in Oslo, sharing the top spot with Gregor Schlierenzauer. He represented Poland at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he finished 4th in the team event and 34th in the individual large hill competition.

Record-Breaking Jump and Continued Success

In 2014, Żyła set a new world record on the large hill in Planica, Slovenia, with a jump of 141 meters. At the 2015 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun, he once again secured a bronze medal in the team event on the large hill and achieved his best individual result, finishing 9th.
