Biography of Said Musa

Said Musa, the Prime Minister of Belize, was born on March 19, 1944 in San Ignacio, British Honduras (now Belize), into a poor, large family. He received his primary education at St. Andrew's School in San Ignacio. After his family moved to Belize City, he attended St. Michael's College from 1957-1960, and then St. John's College from 1960-1961.

In 1966, Musa graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manchester in England and practiced law in London. He returned to Belize in 1967 and began serving in the civil service. In 1970, he resumed his legal practice and became an activist for the United Black Association for Development. Musa also played a key role in founding the People's Action Committee and the Society for the Promotion of Education and Science.

In 1974, Musa joined the United Democratic Party and was appointed as a senator. In 1979, he became the Attorney General and Minister of Education and Sports. From 1984 to 1989, he also served as the Minister of Economic Development. Musa then led the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1989 to 1993. In 1997, he became the leader of the People's United Party.

In 1998, after his party's victory in the elections, Musa was appointed as the Prime Minister of Belize. He retained this position in 2003. Apart from his political career, Musa enjoys reading books, playing tennis, and listening to rock music.

Musa is married and has four children.
