Early Career

Salman Khan started his acting career at the age of 23. In 1988, he played a small role in the comedy film "Biwi Ho To Aisi". However, the film did not achieve much success. His breakthrough came with his next role in the film "Maine Pyar Kiya" in 1989. Unlike his first film, this melodrama was a huge success, and Salman Khan, as the lead actor, was awarded the "Best Debut of the Year" and was nominated for the "Best Male Role" award. The film, later called an "All Time Blockbuster," owed its success to Salman's excellent acting.

Success in the 90s

The Indian film industry is extremely successful and commercially developed. Therefore, successful actors and film projects always find continuation and promotion. The same happened with Salman Khan. In 1991, he played in five films, including a leading role in Lawrence D'Souza's superhit "Saajan". Salman became one of the three most popular actors in 1991, alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt. In 1994, the most successful film of the 90s in Bollywood was released - Suraj Barjatya's melodrama "Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!" starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles. This film is still immensely popular and is classified as an "All Time Blockbuster."

Controversies

Salman Khan found himself at the center of several scandals in the late 90s and early 2000s, which solidified his reputation as a "bad boy" (Bad Boy No. 2; the nickname Bad Boy No. 1 was already associated with another popular Indian actor, Sanjay Dutt). These scandals were directly related to the financing of the film "Chhote Sarkar," which was directly or indirectly involved with an Indian mafia group. As a result, some cinemas refused to screen the film, and increased security measures were taken during its release in other cinemas. Individuals involved in the film, including Salman Khan, were repeatedly called in for questioning by the police. The "bad boy" image is often emphasized and exaggerated by the press, but it does not diminish the actor's popularity. In 2007, Salman Khan became the subject of an internet poll to create a wax figure for Madame Tussauds Museum in London. The unveiling of the wax figure took place on January 15, 2008 (the installation was strongly opposed by mufti Darul Uloom Salim Ahmad Kasmi). In the same year, Salman Khan was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Award for his "outstanding contribution to the development of Indian cinema."
