Early Life and Education
Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudwas born on December 31, 1935, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the 25th son of King Abdulaziz ibn Saud. His mother was Hassa Al Sudairi. Along with six of his brothers, Salman formed the so-called "Sudairi Seven."
He received his early education at the Princes' School in Riyadh, which was established by Ibn Saud for his children. Salman studied both religion and modern subjects, memorizing the entire Quran by the age of ten.
Governor of Riyadh
In February 1963, Salman was appointed Governor of Riyadh Province. He held this position for 48 years, from 1963 to 2011. As governor, he oversaw Riyadh's transformation from a mid-sized city into a major metropolis, attracting tourism and investment to the country. He also cultivated geo-political and economic relations with the West.

Salman joined the Egyptian army as a volunteer during the 1956 Suez Crisis, in which Britain, France, and Israel launched a joint aggression against Egypt.
Personal Life
Salman has married three times:Sultana bint Turki Al Sudairi, who died in 2011. She was the mother of six of his children.
Sarah bint Faisal Al Subai-ai, the mother of Prince Saud.
Fahda bint Falah ibn Sultan Al Hithlain, the mother of six of his children, including Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the current crown prince of Saudi Arabia.
Health
In August 2010, Salman underwent back surgery in the United States. He has also experienced a stroke, and despite physical therapy, his left hand functions less effectively than his right. Analysts have speculated that he may suffer from dementia.
