Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Sam Brown is an English singer-songwriter who was born in July 1996. Her parents, Joe and Vicky, were already significant figures in the British music scene, so it was perhaps inevitable that she would follow in their footsteps. At the age of twelve, Sam made her first studio recording as a backing vocalist on the album "In The Shade" by Small Faces. By the time she was in her late teens, Sam had become an accomplished musician, with experience playing keyboards and frequently being invited to provide backing vocals for various artists.

Rise to Fame

When Sam turned twenty, she embarked on tours and studio recordings with artists such as Steve Marriott, Sade, Spandau Ballet, and Barclay James Harvest. During this time, she also honed her songwriting skills, which eventually led to a record deal with A&M Records in 1986. Her breakthrough came with the release of the worldwide smash hit "Stop" in 1987. The album from which the hit was taken sold over 2.5 million copies and continues to be available today. "Stop" showcased Sam's powerful vocals and reached the top of the charts in ten countries.

Later Career

Over the next three years, Sam's career was filled with promotional activities around the world, with her second album "April Moon" being squeezed in between. Although not as successful as her debut album, "April Moon" still sold one million copies. In the early 90s, Sam began to question certain aspects of the music industry, largely due to the death of her mother, Vicky, who had been a major influence in her life. This tragedy served as the inspiration for Sam's self-released conceptual album "43 Minutes" in 1993. The album was too unconventional for A&M Records but received critical acclaim.

Personal Life and Recent Work

Sam took a break from her music career to start a family. She now has a daughter named Vicky and a son named Moan. After her hiatus, Sam returned to the music scene as a backing vocalist for Pink Floyd's album "Division Bell" and their subsequent world tour in 1994. She can also be heard on the live album "The Pulse" recorded during that tour. In 1995, Sam collaborated with Jools Holland's Big Band and Marillion's former vocalist Fish. Their duet, "Just Good Friends," became a chart success.

Recent Performances

Sam continued to perform live, joining Jools Holland R&B Orchestra for several shows during the summer of 1996. In November 1996, she embarked on her first solo tour with her father Joe Brown and the band The Subway Soopa Stringz. She was also invited to perform at select concerts during Jools Holland's pre-Christmas tour, which was a huge success.

Sam's musical journey has been marked by her powerful vocals, songwriting skills, and collaborations with renowned artists. Despite facing challenges and personal loss, she has remained a respected and influential figure in the music industry.
