Biography of Sam Kinison

Samuel Burl Kinison was an American comedian and actor, known for his stand-up comedy and his controversial humor. Born in Yakima, Washington, he spent most of his childhood in Peoria, Illinois. Kinison's parents, Marie and Samuel, were Pentecostal preachers, and his father worked as a pastor in several local churches.

Early Life and Religious Background

After living in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a while, Kinison followed in his father's footsteps and became a preacher himself. He learned to deliver the word of God at the Pinecrest Bible Training Center. It was believed that he had the potential to become a well-known religious figure, but his divorce from his first wife led him away from preaching and towards comedy.

Comedy Career

Kinison made his debut as a comedian in Houston, Texas. He started performing in small local clubs and gained recognition after appearing on Rodney Dangerfield's Ninth Annual Young Comedians Special, which aired on HBO in the summer of 1984. Within a year, he became a sought-after guest on popular television shows like Late Night with David Letterman. Kinison's comedy style often drew from his background as a former preacher, and he frequently made jokes about the Bible, Christianity, and religious scandals. His bold and controversial humor established him as one of the most popular comedians of his time.

Acting and Music

In 1986, Kinison made his film debut in Rodney Dangerfield's "Back to School." He also had a love for music and occasionally toured with rock bands from Los Angeles. Kinison achieved some notoriety with his uncontrollable addiction to drugs and alcohol. In 1988, he recorded a new version of "Wild Things" with the band "The Troggs," and the music video became a hit on MTV. Kinison also appeared in an episode of the popular comedy series "Married with Children" in 1989, playing the role of the main character's guardian angel.

Tragic Death

On April 4, 1992, Kinison married his girlfriend, Malika Souiri. Sadly, just six days later, on April 10, 1992, he died in a car accident when his Pontiac collided with a truck. His wife survived the crash, but Kinison did not. It was later revealed that the driver responsible for the accident was intoxicated. Kinison's blood test showed traces of cocaine, tranquilizers, and codeine. He was laid to rest at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
