Childhood and Early Life
Olga Tsirksen was born on March 25, 1966, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Her ancestors hailed from a village near Riga, Latvia, and her surname translates to "cricket" in Latvian. From a young age, she harbored an artistic spirit and aspired to become an actress. Her parents instilled in her a love for Soviet cinema and music.
Education and Early Career
Tsirksen studied ballet and later pursued a pedagogical degree at the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute. Upon graduating, financial hardship led her to join the police force. However, her heart yearned for something more, and she eventually set her sights on Moscow.
Acting Beginnings
In Moscow, Tsirksen joined a ballet troupe where she taught dance to children. Her dream of opening her own school remained unfulfilled due to lack of funding. Her life took an unexpected turn in 1998 when she reunited with friends from Tashkent. Director Rauf Kubayev invited her to star in the film "White Dance."
Breakthrough Role and Rising Fame
In "White Dance," Tsirksen portrayed Alina, a woman facing financial struggles after a divorce. Her steamy scenes with Alexander Domogarov and Nikolai Dobrynin propelled her to stardom. The film won the "Golden Owl" award in Vyborg, Russia, and opened doors for Tsirksen to other projects.
Star-Crossed Fame
Tsirksen's newfound fame brought a downside. She became disillusioned with the industry and refused auditions and television roles. This "star disease" nearly halted her acting career. She took a break and pursued other endeavors.
Education and Return to Acting
Tsirksen enrolled in VGIK, Russia's prestigious film school, and graduated with a degree in producing. After a 20-year hiatus, she returned to acting. In 2018, she starred in Anton Bilzho's "Ambivalence," portraying the mother of the protagonist and the love interest of his best friend.
Musical Endeavors
Beyond acting and producing, Tsirksen released three music albums between 2001 and 2003. She experimented with various genres, including French chanson. While she's not sure if she'll continue her musical pursuits, she enjoys writing poetry in her spare time.
Personal Life
Tsirksen met her husband while studying at the institute. They relocated to Moscow, where their relationship suffered due to demanding careers and a lack of time for each other. Olga eventually filed for divorce. She remains single and focuses on raising her son, Matvey.
Other Interests
Olga Tsirksen is an avid traveler and has a keen interest in medieval architecture. She frequently shares photos of her travels on Instagram.
Current Activities
Tsirksen continues to work as a producer and considers the 2022 arthouse tragicomedy "Swan Lake" her most significant work to date. She plays the wife of a governor who directs a ballet performance at her husband's request. According to Tsirksen, some episodes in the film are inspired by her own life experiences.
