Sami Hinkka: Versatile Musician in Ensiferum

Sami Hinkka has been an integral member of the Finnish folk/melodic death metal band Ensiferum since 2004. Replacing the previous bassist, Jukka-Pekka Miettinen, he initially balanced his involvement in Ensiferum with the doom/melodic death metal band Rapture. However, in 2006, he dedicated himself exclusively to Ensiferum.

Instrumental Proficiency and Creative Contributions

Beyond his role as bassist, Sami Hinkka provides backing vocals alongside Markus Toivonen, complementing Petri Lindroos's harsh and clean vocals. His significant contribution extends to the lyrics of Ensiferum's songs, having crafted the words for almost all their tracks since the album "Victory Songs."

Exceptional Equipment and Technique

Sami Hinkka's unique approach to bass playing includes the use of a rare seven-string bass, affectionately named "Deathbringer." This custom-made instrument allows him to explore a wider range of tones and textures. Notably, he employs fingerstyle exclusively, avoiding the use of a pick.

Versatility and Stand-in Performance

Sami Hinkka's versatility was showcased during Ensiferum's Russian tour in 2008 when he stepped up as a stand-in vocalist and lead guitarist for the ailing Petri Lindroos. This testament to his musical proficiency and adaptability further highlights his value to the band.
