Richard Kingson
Club CareerRichard Kingson, a renowned Ghanaian goalkeeper, began his professional career with Accra Hearts of Oak in Ghana. In September 2005, he made a significant move to Tunisia's Club Africain for a transfer fee of $150,000.
Kingson solidified his status as a national hero after famously saving a penalty from Danish player Rene Niclas Jensen. Widely regarded as one of Africa's finest goalkeepers, he eventually returned to Accra Hearts of Oak on November 29, 2008, after expressing his willingness to play a season for the club in the hopes of regaining a spot on Ghana's national team.
International Career
Kingson established himself as Ghana's primary goalkeeper, representing the Black Stars at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, where he entered the pitch as a substitute in a match against Nigeria due to an injury to starting goalkeeper Richard Kingson.
On March 24, 2007, Kingson sustained an injury in a collision with an Austrian striker during a friendly match in Graz, forcing him to be hospitalized and replaced by Kingson. He was later recalled as a backup goalkeeper for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations but retired from international football after the tournament.
