Biography of Samuel Robert Rivers
Samuel Robert Rivers, better known as Sam Rivers, is a renowned bass guitarist and a member of the band "Limp Bizkit." Born on September 2, 1977, he is the cousin of John Otto, the drummer of Limp Bizkit. Rivers developed a passion for music from a young age and began his musical journey playing the tuba in the Arlington Middle School orchestra.
Education played a significant role in shaping Rivers' musical talent. He attended Bishop Kenny High School and later The Douglas Anderson School Of The Arts, where he further honed his musical skills. Inspired by his cousin John Otto, Rivers transitioned from playing the classical guitar to the bass guitar after a recommendation from his music teacher.
Early Career and Formation of Limp Bizkit
At the age of 15, while working part-time in a chicken restaurant to save up money for a new bass guitar, Sam Rivers met Fred Durst. Together, they formed the band Malachi Sage, which had a short-lived existence. Following the disbandment of Malachi Sage, Sam and Fred decided to form another group.
Sam Rivers invited his cousin John Otto to join the new band as the drummer. Eventually, Wes Borland and DJ Lethal joined the group, completing the lineup of Limp Bizkit. In 1995, the band recorded a demo titled "Mental Aquaducts," and in 1997, with the support of Korn, they released their first album, "Three Dollar Bill Y'All," when Rivers was just 19 years old.
Limp Bizkit gained significant popularity with the release of their second album, "Significant Other," in 1999. However, in 2001, after the release of "Chocolate Starfish And The Hotdog Flavored Water," Wes Borland left the band. Despite this setback, Sam Rivers continued to contribute to Limp Bizkit's music, including collaborations with Marilyn Manson and David Draiman.
Continued Musical Journey
While Limp Bizkit took a break, Sam Rivers opened his own studio in Jacksonville in 2006. He ventured into production, working on the debut albums of Burn Season, The Embraced, and Indorphine. In 2007, he performed with Burn Season and Porcelain Black.
In 2008, news emerged that Rivers was working on an untitled side project with former Cold and Evanescence guitarist Terry Balsamo. Throughout his career, Rivers has been recognized for his exceptional bass playing skills, earning the title of Bassist of the Year at the Gibson Awards in 2000.
