Biography of Tak Matsumoto

Tak Matsumoto is a renowned Japanese musician, guitarist, composer, and producer. He is also a singer-songwriter and is known for his work with the band 'B'z' as well as his solo career. In 2011, he was named the "best guitarist in Japan" by the Japanese public.

Early Life and Musical Journey

Takahiro 'Tak' Matsumoto was born in 1961 in Toyonaka, Osaka. He showed a passion for music from a young age, although his formal musical education was limited. Despite this, Tak started playing as a session musician and initially leaned towards jazz. Over time, he blended various styles, making him a versatile musician. Today, Matsumoto plays blues, jazz, classical music, folk, metal, rock, and everything else that can be played on the guitar.

Formation of 'B'z'

In the mid-1980s, Tak started his successful solo career but later decided to form a band. He soon became known as one of the two members of the band 'B'z', where he works alongside Koshi Inaba. The group released their first album in 1988 and has since produced more than twenty albums, including the 2011 release 'C'mon'.

Solo Career

In 1999, Tak Matsumoto's guitar skills were recognized by Gibson, and he received his own signature 'Les Paul' guitar. He became the first guitarist from Asia to receive such an honor. In 2010, Tak collaborated with renowned guitarist Larry Carlton, and together they released the album 'Take Your Pick'. The album received nine Grammy nominations in 2011 and won the award for "Best Pop Instrumental Album".
