Education and Early Career

In 1968, Narek Sargsyan embarked on his architectural journey at the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute's Faculty of Architecture, graduating in 1974. A decade later, in 1984, he successfully defended his scientific dissertation at the Moscow Architectural Institute, earning him the title of Candidate of Architecture.

Academic and Research Experience

From 1973 to 1975, Sargsyan held positions as a master and engineer at the laboratory of the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute. His academic pursuits continued as he joined the Department of Industrial and Construction Architecture, where he served as an assistant (1975-1983) and later as a senior lecturer (1983-1990).

Transition to Architecture and Urban Planning

In 1990, Sargsyan shifted his focus to the Architectural and Construction Institute, assuming the role of senior lecturer and associate professor until 1992. During that time (1990-1992), he also held the position of Deputy Dean of the Architectural Faculty at the Yerevan Architectural and Construction Institute.

Ministerial Appointments

Sargsyan's expertise in architecture and urban planning led to several ministerial appointments. From 1996 to 1998, he served as Deputy Head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Development at the Yerevan City Hall. Subsequently, he held positions as Deputy Head of the Department of Economic Infrastructures and Agriculture (1998-1999), Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Urban Development (1999-2000), and Dean of the Architectural Faculty at the Yerevan Architectural and Construction Institute (2000-2003).

Chief Architect of Yerevan

Sargsyan's significant contributions culminated in his appointment as Chief Architect of Yerevan in August 2004. He served in this role initially until September 2004 and later from November 2004 to January 2011. During his tenure, he concurrently headed the Department of Architecture and Urban Development of the Yerevan City Hall.
