Early Life and Education

Samvel Gevorgyan was born in 1948. He earned a degree in philology from Yerevan State University between 1965 and 1970.

Career in Media and Activism

From 1971 to 1972, Gevorgyan worked as a teacher in the village of Bazmaberd. He then joined the newspaper "Ashtarak" in 1972, where he worked for one year.

In 1973, Gevorgyan joined the Television and Radio Committee of the Armenian SSR as an editor. He later became the head of the main information editorial department. During this time, he also served as a member of the "Karabakh" committee.

Political Career

In 1990, Gevorgyan was elected to the Supreme Council of the Armenian SSR. He served as a member of the permanent commission on issues of state independence and national policy.

From 1991 to 1993, Gevorgyan chaired the Public Television and Radio of Armenia. He later became an advisor to the Armenian president from 1993 to 1995.

In 1995, Gevorgyan was elected to the Armenian parliament. He was a member of the permanent commission on defense, national security, and internal affairs. He also served on the board of the Armenian Pan-National Movement (AOD).

Later Years and Legacy

Samvel Gevorgyan passed away on June 17, 2014, at the age of 66, after a protracted illness. He is remembered as a prominent figure in Armenian media, politics, and the Karabakh movement.
