Biography of Sandra

Early Life

Sandra was born on May 18, 1962, in Saarbrücken, Germany, to German mother Karin and French father Robert Lauer. She grew up sharing a room with her older brother Gaston, who was two years older. From a young age, Sandra expressed a passion for music and received guitar lessons from a music teacher who lived on the same street as her family. At the age of 12, she knew she wanted to be a singer and impressed everyone with her performance of Olivia Newton-John's song at a children's song competition.

Arabesque

In 1979, Sandra's parents signed a contract that allowed her, as a 16-year-old girl, to join the female trio "Arabesque" as the lead singer. From 1979 to 1985, Arabesque gained fame in Japan and became as well-known in East Asia as ABBA was in Europe. During this time, they released 15 albums, 30 singles, and 1 compact disc. However, Arabesque did not achieve the same level of success in Germany.

Solo Career

After the breakup of Arabesque, Sandra began her solo career in 1985 with the song "Japan ist weit" (German version of Alphaville's "Big in Japan"). She then collaborated with her friend Michael Cretu, who had been the arranger and composer for the group Boney M. Together, they formed a successful partnership and released the hit single "Maria Magdalena" in 1985, followed by her first solo album "The long play". Sandra continued to release albums and singles throughout the years, including "Mirrors" in 1986 and "Paintings in Yellow" in 1990.

Family Life

On January 7, 1988, Sandra married Michael Cretu. They currently reside in Ibiza, Spain, where they have two homes - a converted farmhouse that serves as their residence and studio (A.R.T. studio), and a historic 18th-century house in the city center. In 1995, Sandra gave birth to twins named Nikita and Sebastian. Despite her busy career, Sandra remains dedicated to her family and enjoys spending time with them.
