Sandy Duncan is an American singer and actress known for her recognizable blonde hair, elf-like hairstyle, and lively, spirited behavior. She was born on February 20, 1946, in Henderson, Texas, and grew up in Tyler, Texas.

Early Life and Career

Sandy began her career at the age of 12, playing a role in the local production of "The King" for $150 a week. In the mid-1960s, she auditioned for a television commercial for "United California Bank" (later part of "Wells Fargo Bank) and landed the role of a bank teller struggling to pronounce the name of a client, Nicholas Janopopolis. Her line "Can I just call you Nick?" became a memorable catchphrase.

Television and Broadway Success

After a brief role on the soap opera "Search for Tomorrow" (1968), Sandy landed the lead role in the TV series "Funny Face," which later became "The Sandy Duncan Show." Her portrayal of Missy Anne Reynolds in the miniseries "Roots" earned her an Emmy nomination. In 1976, she appeared on "The Muppet Show," and around the same time, she returned to Broadway, starring in "Peter Pan" (1979), "My One and Only," and "Chicago." Her second husband was oncologist Dr. Thomas Kalkaterra, whom she met when he treated her eye tumor. They were married for six years (1973-1979). On July 21, 1980, she married Don Correia, with whom she has two children, Jeffrey (born in 1983) and Michael (born in 1984).

Voice Acting and Later Career

Sandy Duncan also lent her voice to animated characters, such as Vixey in Disney's "The Fox and the Hound" (1981) and Firefly in an episode of "My Little Pony." In 1994, she voiced Queen Uberta in "The Swan Princess." In 1999, she appeared as a singer and narrator in episodes with Mickey Mouse.
