Early Life and Education
Alastair Stewart Gall was born in Penang, Straits Settlements (present-day Malaysia), where his father worked as a rubber planter. His family later moved to Scotland, where Gall received his education at Trinity College (Glenalmond College), an independent boys' boarding school in Perth and Kinross.
Journalistic Career
Gall embarked on a journalistic career that spanned over five decades. He joined the Independent Television News (ITN) as a reporter and rose through the ranks to become a prominent news anchor in Scotland.

As an anchor for ITN, Gall covered significant events and reported from various locations worldwide. He played a pivotal role in shaping public opinion and informing viewers about important issues.
Awards and Recognition
Throughout his career, Gall received numerous accolades for his journalistic contributions. In 1985, he was awarded the Sitara-i-Pakistan for his reporting on the country. In 1986, he received the Lawrence of Arabia Memorial Medal. In 1987, he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). His dedication to reporting on Afghanistan earned him the Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) in 2011.
Later Career
Following his departure from ITN in 1992, Gall continued his work in television and writing. He became an international affairs expert on LBC radio in 2003.
Personal Life
Gall's daughter, Carlotta Gall, is a journalist who has also made significant contributions to the field.
