Sara Benincasa is an American comedian, writer, and radio host known for her parody acts as well as her serious programs on sex. While she excels in comedic material, Benincasa is also capable of engaging in thoughtful discussions on various important topics.
Early Career and Rise to Fame
Sara Benincasa first gained recognition as a journalist for MTV, where she covered the 2008 US presidential elections as part of the project 'Think.' Her work on the project earned MTV an Emmy award. In September 2008, Benincasa started her own video blog, where she parodied Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin. Her parodies, particularly her imitation of Palin's distinct accent, gained popularity and were uploaded to her YouTube page. Benincasa later partnered with the humor website Huffington Post's '23/6' and continued sharing her videos on the platform.
In addition to Palin, Benincasa also parodied Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. She hosted the talk show 'Get in Bed' on 'Sirius XM Satellite Radio' until September 2010 when the radio station reduced its program lineup and let go of several hosts, including Benincasa. Shortly after, Benincasa launched a new project focused on sex called 'Sex and Other Human Activities.' Together with Marcus Parks, she started hosting a podcast where they addressed various sex-related questions sent to them via email and Formspring. The podcast was launched in February 2011, and Benincasa's final episode, 'End of an Era,' aired on September 19, 2012.
Continued Work and Recent Projects
Sara Benincasa joined Nerve.com's 'BlogALog' as one of their regular humor bloggers. She published her last post on the SJ1000 blog on April 1, 2008, mentioning that her fans could find her on her official website, MySpace page, MTV Think profile, or personal blog. Alongside her blog, Benincasa continued conducting interviews with various celebrities, often conducting them in her bathroom. Among her interviewees were renowned comedians such as Reggie Watts, Jonathan Ames, and Andy Borowitz.
Recently, Sara Benincasa began collaborating with the project Jezebel. She plans to continue her "bathroom" interviews with celebrities and is likely to resume touring with her comedy performances. Her appearances at SF Sketchfest and Family Hour with Auntie Sara provided her with the opportunity to develop new material and prepare for the launch of new comics. Currently, Benincasa resides in Los Angeles, where she actively works on her upcoming book, which is expected to target a teenage audience.
