Sarah Ashton-Cirillo is a transgender woman who initially made her mark in politics. From 2020 to 2021, she was actively involved in Nevada politics, including an unsuccessful run for Las Vegas City Council.
Journalism and Exposé
In 2021, Ashton-Cirillo received national attention for exposing recordings of Republican candidates discussing efforts to recruit members of the extremist group Proud Boys for a planned "Brooks Brothers Riot" aimed at overturning the 2020 US presidential election results. War Correspondent in Ukraine
Beginning in March 2022, Ashton-Cirillo reported on the Russian invasion of Ukraine from Kharkiv, Ukraine, primarily for LGBTQ Nation. She documented the impact of the war on the LGBTQ community, making her the first openly transgender war correspondent and the only transgender journalist covering current events.
Military Career
In October 2022, Ashton-Cirillo joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a combat medic. Having served in the US Army Reserve as a medic, she was deemed fully qualified for the role. She completed her training on October 27th and was assigned to the Noman Çelebicihan Battalion, a Crimean Tatar unit.
Combat Experience and Injury
Ashton-Cirillo deployed to the frontlines in the Donbas in February 2023. On February 22nd, she was injured in combat when her unit came under fire, losing part of her hand and sustaining facial injuries. Despite the devastation, she maintains that Ukraine will prevail.

In December 2022, Ashton-Cirillo met with members of the US Congress to advocate for continued military aid to Ukraine. She also extended an invitation for government officials to visit Ukraine and witness the effectiveness of the weapons provided.
