Early Life and Education

Usenbai Bakhtiyarovich Tastanbekov was born on October 20, 1919, in the village of Batana, Karasai District, Almaty Region. In 1928, he received his primary education in his village, learning to read the Arabic alphabet. He continued his studies at the Talgar Agricultural Technical School (1938) and the Kaskelen Kazakh Secondary School (1939).

World War II and Military Service

In December 1939, Tastanbekov was conscripted into the Red Army. He completed junior commander training in Minsk and served in Moldova and Poland. From 1941, he fought in the Great Patriotic War, initially as a member of a partisan detachment behind enemy lines. After breaking through enemy defenses, he rejoined the regular army at the front. He returned to Kazakhstan in 1943 as a disabled veteran (Group II).

Post-War Career in Journalism

After the war, Tastanbekov worked in collective farms as a secretary and farm manager. From 1945 to 1950, he was the responsible secretary of the Kaskelen District newspaper and the editor of the Yenbekshikazakh District newspaper. In 1950, he enrolled in the Alma-Ata Higher Party School, graduating in 1952 with a degree in political science.

Senior Editorial Positions

From 1952 to 1965, Tastanbekov served as the editor-in-chief of newspapers in Kaskelen and Zhambyl Districts. From 1966 to 1979, he was an instructor in the Kaskelen District Party Committee.

Advocacy and Recognition

From 1990 to 1999, Tastanbekov chaired the district society "Kazakh Language." He was a respected figure in Kazakhstan and received numerous awards, including the Order of Kurmet in 2014 and the title of "Honorary Journalist of the Republic of Kazakhstan." He passed away on April 17, 2019.
