Biography of Sarah Cracknell

Sarah Cracknell is an English singer and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the electronic group 'Saint Etienne'. She was born in Windsor, England, and is the daughter of Derek Cracknell, who was the first assistant to Stanley Kubrick.

Early Career

Cracknell's musical career began in 1982 in Windsor with a local indie band called 'The Worried Parachutes'. Although the band did not last long, it did not mark the end of Cracknell's musical journey. In 1987, she released her debut single 'Love Is All You Need'. Shortly after, she formed a new group called 'Prime Time' with Mick Bund. While the band did not achieve significant popularity, they released several successful singles.

Joining 'Saint Etienne'

The project 'Saint Etienne' initially planned to work with various vocalists. However, everything changed when the band members met Sarah Cracknell. Her talent impressed them so much that she became the permanent vocalist of the band. Cracknell's rendition of the song 'Nothing Can Stop Us' was so brilliant that she was chosen to record the rest of the band's debut album, 'Foxbase Alpha'. The album was a success, establishing Cracknell as the band's lead singer.

Solo Career

In 1996, Cracknell released her solo single 'Anymore', followed by her solo album in May 1997. The album, released under 'Gut Records' in the UK, featured a compilation of dance, indie, and pop songs. Despite receiving positive reviews from critics, the album did not sell well. Cracknell blamed the record label's lack of promotion for its commercial failure. The British version of the album, 'Lipslide', did not survive, but the American version, released under 'Instinct Records' three years later, was preserved. The albums differed significantly in terms of artwork and tracklist.

Collaborations and Recent Work

Cracknell has collaborated with various musicians, releasing joint projects of varying degrees of success. In 2000, she was approached by Spiller to record the vocals for the song 'Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)'. However, she did not end up participating in the recording. In December 2007, Cracknell featured on Mark Brown's song 'The Journey Continues', which gained popularity after being played on BBC Radio. She has also collaborated extensively with French pop singer Etienne Daho.

Recent Activities

On August 21, 2014, 'Cherry Red Records' announced that they had signed a new contract with Sarah Cracknell. As part of the contract, she was set to release a new album in early 2015 and perform a series of concerts to support it.
