Early Life and Education

Sarah Douglas was born in the Shakespearean town of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, to Beryl Douglas, a physiotherapist, and Edward Douglas, a pilot in the Royal Air Force. She attended Ulster Grammar School and Rose Bruford College, where she combined her studies with work at the National Youth Theatre.

Acting Career

Douglas began her acting career in film and television in 1973, but it was not until 1978 that she gained significant recognition for her role as Ursa in the film "Superman" and its sequel, "Superman II." In 1984, she played the evil Queen Taramis in the fantasy film "Conan the Destroyer."

Fantasy and Science Fiction Roles

Douglas became renowned for her portrayals of demonic rulers and witches. She appeared in numerous fantasy and science fiction films and television series, including "Falcon Crest" from 1983 to 1985. Notable roles included Queen Ravenna in "Ladyhawke" (1985) and the Witch Queen in "Return to Oz" (1985).

Collaboration with BBC

In 2003, Douglas returned to the United Kingdom and began collaborating with the BBC, participating in radio plays. She continued to appear in film and television, including a cameo appearance in the BBC series "Doctor Who" in 2013.

Personal Life

Sarah Douglas was married to American actor Richard LeParmentier from 1981 to 1984.
