Sasha Ilich - Serbian Footballer

Sasha Ilich is a Serbian footballer who has played as a goalkeeper and midfielder for the club "Partizan" in Belgrade. He also had a brief stint with German club "Hamburg", although he did not play any matches in the German championships. According to Sasha, he found it difficult to adapt to the German way of life.

Move to Dynamo St. Petersburg

In 2002, Ilich transferred to "Dynamo" in St. Petersburg. The club's president, Sergey Amelin, intended for Sasha to replace goalkeeper Andrey Manannikov. In the first round of the 2002 season, Sasha served as the team's main goalkeeper, playing in 14 matches and conceding 20 goals. Another goalkeeper from Dynamo at that time, Pavel D'yakonov, admitted that he and Ilich were friends, which is rare among goalkeepers of the same team. In an interview with "Football Chernozemya" magazine, D'yakonov described Sasha as a "wonderful person" and mentioned that such individuals from the Balkans are not often encountered.

Decline in Role

However, when Valery Gladilin became the head coach of Dynamo, Ilich lost his position as the first-choice goalkeeper. D'yakonov took over the goalkeeping duties. When Oleg Dolmatov took over as head coach of Dynamo, Ilich decided to leave the team.

Iranian Exploits

After departing from the St. Petersburg club, Ilich played for Iranian teams such as "Persepolis," "Esteghlal," and "Pegah Gilan."

Sasha Ilich is often compared to Haris and Miroslav Orlic due to their shared Serbian heritage.
