Savo Milošević: A Serbian Football Legend
Early Career and Rise to ProminenceSavo Milošević, a renowned Yugoslav and Serbian footballer, was born in Bijeljina, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina. A product of Belgrade's Partizan academy, he went on to play in England, Spain, Italy, Russia, and the MLS.
International Success
Milošević made his international debut for Yugoslavia in 1994 and became a cornerstone of the team, featuring in three major tournaments: the 1998 and 2006 World Cups and the Euro 2000. His 101 caps and 35 goals for Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro made him their all-time leading scorer.
Notable Achievements in Club Football
After a successful stint with Partizan, Milošević enjoyed a memorable season with Real Zaragoza in 1999-2000. Nicknamed "Man-Goal" due to his prolific scoring, he netted 23 goals in La Liga, helping Zaragoza finish fourth and qualify for the Champions League. However, his subsequent move to Parma proved less successful.
Triumph and Retirement in Russia
In 2008, Milošević signed for Russian club Rubin Kazan. Despite his advanced age, he contributed to their historic first league title in that season, scoring a crucial "golden goal" on the penultimate matchday. He retired from professional football at the end of the 2008 campaign.
Coaching Career
Following his retirement, Milošević embarked on a coaching career. In 2019, he was appointed manager of Partizan, the club where his playing career began. Under his leadership, Partizan won the Serbian Cup and Super Cup in 2020.
