Early Career and Club Transfers
Dario Dainelli, an Italian defender, began his football journey with Empoli. After failing to make his debut, he was loaned to Modena but saw limited playing time. In 1999, Dainelli joined Cavese, where he made 10 appearances. Subsequently, he moved to Fidelis Andria and scored his first professional goal.
Later, Lecce purchased a portion of Dainelli's rights from Empoli, but he returned to Empoli after an impressive season. Empoli then sold him to Brescia, where he played 5 matches before being loaned to Verona in 2002.
Rise with Fiorentina
Upon returning to Brescia, Dainelli became a regular and spent two seasons there, featuring in 55 games. In 2004, Fiorentina acquired half of Dainelli's rights for €2.5 million. With the "Viola," he scored his first Serie A goal against Cagliari, securing a crucial victory. He netted four goals in his first season, including strikes against Juventus and Inter Milan. Fiorentina eventually bought the remaining half of his rights for €2 million.
Captaincy and Success
In 2005, Dainelli became Fiorentina's captain, the 20th in the club's history. The team qualified for the Champions League, but following the Calciopoli scandal, 30 points were deducted. In the 2006-2007 season, Dainelli played 29 matches as Fiorentina became the most defensively solid team, conceding only 31 goals. The season ended with Dainelli extending his contract until 2011.
Decline and Departure
However, Dainelli lost his starting position to Tomas Ujfalusi in the 2007-2008 season and struggled with fitness and form. Despite interest from other clubs, Dainelli opted to stay in Florence. Ujfalusi's departure allowed him to regain a place in the starting lineup, and he played in his 200th league match.
Genoa and International Career
On January 12, 2010, Dainelli joined Genoa for a €2.5 million transfer fee. He made his debut against Roma but suffered a 0-3 defeat. Dainelli debuted for the Italian national team in a 2005 friendly against Ecuador. He also received call-ups for qualification matches against Lithuania and France.
Personal Life
In July 2007, Dainelli opened a restaurant called "La Locanda Dell'Amicone" in Peccioli.
