Sébastien Buemi: A Champion in Endurance and Formula E
Early Career in Karting and Formula BMWSébastien Buemi, a Swiss racing driver, began his career in karting before moving to German Formula BMW in 2004 and 2005. He finished third in his debut season and second the following year.
Transition to Formula 3
In 2005, Buemi participated in the Spanish Formula 3 championship and later joined the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2006, finishing 11th. He continued in the series in 2007 and secured a second-place finish. During this time, he also competed in Formula 3 Masters and the Macau Grand Prix.
Formula 2 and A1 Grand Prix
Alongside his Formula 3 commitments, Buemi competed in the A1 Grand Prix series for Team Switzerland with Neel Jani and Marcel Fässler, finishing eighth in the 2006-2007 season.
Debut in GP2
In 2007, Buemi made his GP2 debut with ART Grand Prix as a replacement for the injured Michael Ammermüller. He impressed on his debut, qualifying fourth and finishing seventh in the Monaco race. He then joined Arden International for the 2008 GP2 Asia season, finishing second overall with one win and four second-place finishes.
Test Driver for Red Bull Racing
Buemi had a successful test session with Red Bull Racing in Jerez in September 2007 and was confirmed as their test and reserve driver for the 2008 season on January 16, 2008.
Medical Car Driver at the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix
During the 2008 Japanese Grand Prix, Buemi temporarily replaced Jacques Tropenat as the safety car driver due to Tropenat's ear problems.
Toro Rosso Driver in Formula 1
On September 19, 2008, Toro Rosso announced Buemi as their most likely choice for the 2009 season. His contract was officially confirmed on January 9, 2009. He became the first Swiss driver to participate in Formula 1 since 1995.
Early Formula 1 Success
In his maiden Formula 1 race in Australia, Buemi earned his first point, which was later upgraded to two points following Lewis Hamilton's disqualification. He scored another point in the rain-affected Chinese Grand Prix.
