Biography of Selina Gasparin

Selina Gasparin is a Swiss athlete and biathlete. She is the oldest of the Gasparin sisters, who are considered to be worthy representatives of Swiss sports. Selina has already made a name for herself in the biathlon world, having achieved success in both the World Cup and the Olympics. In fact, she became the first Swiss athlete to win an Olympic medal in biathlon.

Selina was born in Samedan, Switzerland. Besides being an athlete, she also works as a border guard. Her two younger sisters, Elisa and Aita, are also involved in biathlon. Currently, Selina is in a relationship with Russian Olympic skier Ilya Chernousov.

In 2010, Gasparin represented Switzerland at the Winter Olympics. Although her results were not particularly impressive, she managed to place 40th in the individual races, 56th in the sprint, and 48th in the pursuit.

Selina achieved her first victory in the World Cup on December 6th, 2013, when she won the sprint race in Hochfilzen. Just a week later, she won another sprint race. Gasparin became interested in biathlon in 2004. Initially, she specialized in individual disciplines, but in 2006, she found her place in the relay team.

In 2005, Selina made her debut at the Junior World Championships and achieved remarkable success by placing in the top twenty twice. The same year, she also made her first appearance in the World Cup for adults. However, competing at this level proved to be more challenging as the level of competition was significantly higher.

For a period of time, Selina competed in both the World Cup and the European Cup. She had particularly successful performances in the 2005-2006 European Cup season, earning podium finishes and narrowly missing a top ten placement. From the 2006-2007 season onwards, Gasparin began to receive more opportunities to compete in the World Cup. This increased exposure resulted in noticeable improvements in her rankings.

Selina earned her first World Cup points in the 2008-2009 season and achieved her first top ten finish in 2010. She also performed well in relay events and was regularly selected to represent Switzerland in the World Cup starting from 2009. In 2013, Selina, Elisa, and Aita made history by becoming the first Swiss athletes to finish in the top ten in a relay race in Ruhpolding. They were joined by Irene Cadurisch in representing Switzerland in the race.

In 2014, Selina Gasparin had an outstanding performance at the Olympics in Sochi, winning a silver medal in the women's individual race.
