Biography of Semyon Pinsky
Semyon Borisovich Pinsky is a Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Scientist, and Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation. He is the head of the Department of General Surgery and an honorary professor at Irkutsk State Medical University. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Siberian Medical Journal.
Education and Early Career:
In 1959, Semyon Pinsky graduated with honors from Irkutsk Medical Institute. His entire professional career has been associated with one medical institution, the base of the Department of General Surgery - Irkutsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1. From 1959 to 1961, he completed his residency in the Department of General Surgery at Irkutsk Medical Institute, and from 1961 to 1964, he worked as a surgeon at Irkutsk City Clinical Hospital. In 1964, he was elected to the Department of General Surgery at Irkutsk State Medical Institute, progressing from assistant to associate professor (1970), professor (1975), and head of the department (1982). From 1988 to 2005, he also served as the vice-rector for medical work.
Contributions to Medical Education and Research:
In 1990, with the participation of Semyon Pinsky, the first non-budgetary Center for the Training and Retraining of Medical Personnel was organized in Russia. He was the first dean of the newly established Faculty of Advanced Training and Professional Retraining. Under his leadership, thousands of doctors underwent retraining in their specialties and improved their knowledge and practical skills. He also supervised the medical examination of children in the Irkutsk region.
His surgical practice and scientific interests are diverse and dedicated to the field of surgical endocrinology, planned and emergency surgery of the abdominal organs, purulent surgery, endoscopy, and intensive therapy. He has authored 325 scientific publications, 5 monographs, and holds 10 patents for inventions. He has supervised 5 doctoral and 16 candidate dissertations and published 8 collections of scientific works. Semyon Pinsky has made a significant contribution to the development of endocrine surgery.
Achievements and Recognitions:
Semyon Pinsky has been elected a member of the Board of the All-Union and All-Russian Society of Endocrinologists and the Board of the Association of Endocrinologists of Russia. He is an honorary member of the Association of Surgeons of the Irkutsk region. He has delivered speeches at all All-Union and Russian endocrinology congresses, conferences, symposiums, and international scientific forums (Japan, Turkey, Israel, Mongolia). He is a member of the organizing committee and editorial board of the annual Russian symposiums on surgical endocrinology.
In 2002, as part of a team of authors, he was awarded the title of Laureate of the Governor of the Irkutsk region's prize in science and technology for the work "Prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of thyroid diseases in the Irkutsk region." In 2005, he co-authored the monograph "Diagnosis of Thyroid Diseases," published by "Medicine" publishing house.
Semyon Pinsky actively collaborates with the Mongolian Medical University. Under his supervision, two employees of this university successfully defended their candidate's and doctoral dissertations.
Teaching and Public Activities:
Semyon Borisovich is a highly qualified teacher and a talented lecturer. He pays great attention to the improvement of educational and methodological work in the department and at Irkutsk State Medical University. He is actively involved in the training, upbringing, and professional growth of his students.
In 1984, on the initiative of Semyon Borisovich, a competition in Surgical Pathology and Pathophysiology has been regularly held on the third year of the medical faculty. This competition has become very popular in the institute, allowing students not only to demonstrate their knowledge but also to showcase their creative abilities.
