Life and Military Service of Mikhail Alpeyev
Early Life and Military CareerMikhail Alpeyev, a Soviet officer, was born into a peasant family and completed his secondary education. He joined the Red Army in 1931 and became a member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) in 1938. He subsequently graduated from the junior lieutenants' courses.
Heroism in the Winter War
During the Winter War of 1939-1940, Alpeyev, then a junior lieutenant, commanded the 7th Battery of the 137th Artillery Regiment. He distinguished himself in battle by suppressing three enemy firing points along the Punnus-Yoki River and destroying an enemy fortification with artillery fire on the Salmenkaita (Bulatnaya) River on February 28, 1940. For his bravery, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union on April 7, 1940.
World War II and Post-War Service
In World War II, Alpeyev led an artillery division and later a regiment. He successfully commanded his units in combat, contributing to the Soviet victory. After the war, he attended the Higher Artillery Officers' School and graduated in 1944.
Retirement and Death
In 1955, Alpeyev retired from the military with the rank of colonel. He settled in Moscow and passed away on April 20, 1979, leaving behind a distinguished legacy as a decorated war hero and a respected military commander.
