Early Life and Education
Venjamin Valeevich Albetkov was born into a family of civil servants in the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Albetkov completed three years of study at the Tashkent Textile Technical School before joining the Red Army in 1939. He graduated from the Yaroslavl Military Infantry School in 1941.
Military Career
Albetkov began his service on the front lines of the Great Patriotic War in June 1941. In the autumn of 1943, his battalion played a crucial role in defending against the German offensive near Rylsk, eliminating hundreds of enemy soldiers.
Battle of the Dnieper
Albetkov's most significant contribution came during the Battle of the Dnieper. On September 26, he organized a successful crossing of the battalion across the Днепр River, establishing a vital bridgehead. This daring feat disrupted the German's attempt to cross the Desna River near Oster.
Hero of the Soviet Union
For his exceptional leadership and bravery in combat, Albetkov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on October 17, 1943, receiving the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. He reached the rank of major before retiring from the military in 1959 with the rank of colonel.
Post-War Years
After the war, Albetkov continued his military service and graduated from the Frunze Military Academy in 1948. He resided in Moscow until his passing on April 17, 1984.
