Childhood and Early Life

Lee Seung-hwan, better known by his stage name Seo Kang-joon, was born on October 12, 1993, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. From an early age, he exhibited a creative spirit, initially pursuing piano lessons from age 8 to 15. Aspiring to become a musician, he harbored dreams of studying music after completing high school. However, at the insistence of his family, Seo moved to Malaysia for a period of 18 months.

Modeling and Early Entertainment

As a teenager, Seo entered the fashion industry, modeling for catalogues and participating in runway shows. Through his modeling earnings, he was able to enroll in the Department of Performing Arts at Dong Seoul University.

Musical Debut

Acting on the advice of a professor, Seo auditioned for Fantagio Corp. and joined the actor-musician boy band 5urprise after participating in the company's "Actor's League" show in September 2013. Unlike many popular idol groups, who focus primarily on music before transitioning to acting, 5urprise took the opposite approach.

Filmography

Seo made his acting debut in the web drama "After School: Lucky or Not" in 2013. Subsequently, he landed his first lead role in the drama "Cunning Single Lady" in 2014, earning him his first Korea Drama Award.

In the years that followed, Seo starred in numerous popular dramas, including "What's With This Family?" (2014), "Marriage, Not Dating" (2014), "The Way Back" (2017), "Beauty Inside" (2018), and "The Third Charm" (2018).

His breakthrough role came in 2016 with the hit drama "Cheese in the Trap," where he played a talented pianist alongside Kim Go-eun and Park Hae-jin.

Personal Life

Standing at 183 cm tall, Seo has remained private about his personal life. In past interviews, he has mentioned that he first fell in love in 10th grade, a romance that was not hindered by his girlfriend's slightly older age or their initial friendship.

Seo enjoys playing golf, tennis, and piano. He is also an avid equestrian and loves traveling and animals. He owns three cats, who frequently appear in photos on his personal Instagram account.

Recent Years

In 2022, Seo starred in the romantic melodrama "Grid", alongside Kim Ah-joong. He is currently serving in the military, having enlisted in November 2021. His discharge is scheduled for May 22, 2023.
